New Bedford to Install High Heel Crossing Lanes
By Butch Inskalop
New Bedford mayor Jon Mitchell ordered city workers to begin work on constructing ‘High Heel Crossing Lanes’ on the city’s historic and quaint cobblestoned streets. After receiving dozens complaints from area women, to include celebrity Kim Kardashian, the mayor went right to work with city planners.
“Because we are ahead of schedule, I’ve pulled resources from the New Bedford/Fairhaven bridge,” he said in a telephone interview yesterday. “It will delay the completion of the bridge by a few more weeks, but it has to be done. We are risking potential law suits from sprained ankles or damaged heels. Some of these shoes are very expensive.”
The special crossing lanes will be placed at locations on all the streets so that high heel wearers need not cross at corners. Signage will be posted at all crossings.
