New Bedford officials add “oldest pothole in New England” to the historic registry

by

New Bedford and state officials gathered on Route I-195 to hold a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony for what some are calling the oldest pothole in New England. Many questioned the 5:00 pm timing of the dedication ceremony that backed up traffic for several miles.

“We knew the pothole was the oldest in New Bedford,” stated New Bedford City Council Ian Martins. “Later we learned it was the oldest in New England. Then after carbon dating the pothole we learned it is the oldest in the nation. It’s something all of New Bedford should be proud of.”

Some saw it as a way of preserving history.

“The mayor has been relentless on his crusade to fill potholes,” stated Councilor Kerry Rebeiro. “Just last winter he filled over 10,000 of them. Now that this has been added to the historic registry, it can’t be touched. Keep your hands off our history Mr. Mayor!”

    Where on 195?
I don’t remember seeing anything that big on the highway.
I think it’s wonnnnderfullll. We have a big hole in the ground to be proud of and to PRESERVE??? In the MIDDLE of the HIGHWAY !!!!!!! Did I read this incorrectly? Is that a joke? Because to me the statement appears serious. Move over Moby Dick we’ve got something better than you! I guess that’s where all the tax money’s been going straight into that freaking hole and their pockets!!! It’s nice to see you all so very happy and proud of a hole in the middle of the highway!!!
Also who paid for the carbon dating and what genius came up with that idea?
This just goes to show us what our City/state officials consider important. Should be ashamed of yourselves.

Not only do u need to fix this stupid pothole that has prob caused thousands of dollars to motor vehicle owners in repairs but also don’t u have other rather important causes that need a conference, like the 5 overdoses in a matter of hours? Smh!! Job well done council!!
